Helen Bradbury

Born in 1963 and raised in the Midlands, England, I obtained a first class honours Fine Art degree at Wolverhampton College of Art, specialising in painting and printmaking on a course taught by lecturers of the Royal College, London.
Moving to Northern Ireland in 1988, I began exhibiting my artwork throughout Ireland. I also initiated projects with the local community in County Down, forging strong creative links with adults and children of the localities.
On the strength of these initiatives, I established a working relationship with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Artists in Schools Programme, which extended my practice province wide.
Simultaneously, I developed educational links with Dublin National Gallery, Downpatrick Museum and Banbridge College of Further Education, as a creative support in their outreach programmes.
In 1994 I started working regularly with Arts Care in Northern Ireland. It was here I evolved and nurtured creative practice in healthcare environments and helping people with learning difficulties, disabilities and chronic illness. It remains an important part of my activity.
Showing my artwork in galleries and exhibitions, in tandem with my work for communities and healthcare organisations, has allowed me to engage with the public personally, leading to invitations to work on privately commissioned pieces for individual clients and corporate bodies. This has enabled me to establish personal links with each work, specific to person and place.
